‘Nintendo Switch 2’ May Arrive In Early 2021 With A Bunch Of New Titles

Fancy buying a new Nintendo Switch right now? Well, you might want to wait for a bit. The next Nintendo Switch may not be quite far from being unveiled after all. According to new reports by Bloomberg and Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, the next Nintendo Switch (probably named the Nintendo Switch 2) may come out in early 2021.

The reports cite supply chain sources and claim that the next iteration of the NIntendo Switch will be much more powerful than the current models.

“The specifications of the new machine have yet to be finalized, though the Kyoto-based company has looked into including more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics,” states the Bloomberg report.

The original Nintendo Switch was launched about 4 years ago and was powered by the NVIDIA Tegra X1 SoC. Even the subsequent Switch model, the Switch Lite, made use of the same platform that was tweaked to be more power efficient.

Given that mobile computing has improved by leaps and bounds since the original Switch launched, the next-gen has a lot of potential to improve on its performance.

The reports also state that the launch of the next-gen Switch will be accompanied with a slew of titles which would cater to a wide audience, right from casual gamers to gamers indulging in marathon gaming sessions.

This also explains why Nintendo had a relatively quiet software schedule for 2020. This is also strategic since the launch of the next-gen gaming consoles from Microsoft and Sony, the Xbox Series X & S and the PlayStation 5 respectively, have caught the attention of the gamers community worldwide.

Although, the silent software schedule doesn’t mean it was a bad year for Nintendo. In fact, 2020 has been a phenomenal year for the Nintendo Switch and the Japanese company has struggled to meet the demand. A huge chunk of the sales this year can be attributed to the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons which went viral with the start of the pandemic. It is because of this that Nintendo’s share price has gained more than 70% till now!
